Objectives
Recmix
of PA, Inc. recovers Reclime and stainless steel as co-products from slag
at two facilities in western Pennsylvania. Reclime is an agricultural
liming material that is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of
Agriculture and approved by the Department of Environmental Protection.
Reclime has also been approved for use on agricultural lands in Ohio,
Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland, and Florida. We separate the products
through mechanically wet- grinding the feed slag, then physically separate
the stainless steel from the lime. Stainless steel is returned to steel
producers and recovered lime is sold for agricultural use. We use no
chemicals for processing the slag (other than a biodegradable flocculent),
and by internally recycling process water we discharge no water to the
environment.
Quality
Matters:
Recmix
has implemented several measures to assure Reclime is free of contaminants
and achieves the guaranteed analysis. Recmix takes the following steps to
control the quality of the Reclime you receive:
•
Reclime is stored on an asphalt paved pad away from metal and raw material
stock piles,
•
Reclime is tested weekly to confirm its chemical characteristics.
Additionally, the Reclime produced at our Sarver facility can be further
screened to reduce lumps/particle size, and can be provided at a moisture
content selected by our customers.
RECLIME® Developments:
Reclime
is an improved liming product with significant agricultural benefits. 1999
testing and farm use feedback indicates benefits beyond calcium and pH
adjustment.
Recmix
has undertaken a significant testing program to identify specific
additional benefits associated with Reclime use. We currently have
research programs with Penn State, Rutgers, Purdue, and the University of
Florida. Year 2000 field studies will be completed on wheat, rye, alfalfa,
oats, corn, rice and other row crops, vegetables, and fruit.
What is Reclime®
"Reclime"
is a material that is readily available in bulk. It is an
approved material now being used as a liming material on agricultural
lands. When this material is compacted and rolled in place it has
been found that Reclime has cement like characteristics. This
product provides farmers with dry, stable areas for stacking bales of hay
and getting animals out of the mud in a typical barnyard.

Project News
Due to the unavailability
of the proposed material, Reclime has been approved for use on this
project. Reclime is currently in the developmental stages of
completing this product. Because of this, the contract for this
project has been extended until 2004. Some of the problems that
Reclime is currently facing are as follows; this material does not cure in
the cold weather, if the material gets too dry it will blow away, if the
material gets too wet then is does not dry. To make this product
fully operational, Reclime has proposed to add Portland cement mix to the
product. This will strengthen the product, which can then be used
for the various projects.
